An Interview with: I AM SAM PHOTOGRAPHY

Describe your photography style in three words:

I would say my style is very Natural, Emotive and Engaging

What advice would you give to a budding photographer who wants to turn their passion into a business?

I would say that it’s a hugely tough and competitive market to get into, but if you have tons of drive and ambition you can make a living from your passion and do what you love everyday. I still have tough days, as I’m sure all photographers do - but with a lot of motivation (and a tiny bit of luck!) you can create a successful business.

Do you have a favourite photograph you’ve ever taken, and why?

That’s so hard!! I’ve been taking pictures for over 10 years and in that time I’ve taken 1000’s, each one special to me - but after a lot of thought, I’ve chosen a very recent one I took of a lovely couple who I’m photographing their wedding for in September. We visited the venue to have a look around and came across a gorgeous corn field - we picked a fairly miserable day weatherise so I felt the image was more eye-catching in black & white to show the different textures of the corn and the brooding clouds, keeping the focus on Charlotte & Rob.

Is there anything exciting coming up in your business that we can look forward to?

I'm currently going through years of travel photos to create an exhibition of my work - having been a photographer onboard cruise ships in another life, I had the chance to visit some fantastic destinations so I thought it’s now time to show them off! I will also be exploring more of Shropshire and taking lots more photos along the way :)

Have you got a favourite spot in Shropshire that you like to photograph, and why?

As a fairly new addition to Shropshire, I’m still finding my way around and exploring the county but a place that really took my breath away when I visited was The Stiperstones National Park - it has some of the best views of Shropshire, you can’t help but feel amazed by its beauty - I’m so lucky to live here!
