HELP YOURSELF TO SUCCESS 3

MOTIVATION, MOTIVATION, MOTIVATION

As Steve Jobs said, “I’m convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance”.

But perseverance can be tough, can’t it?

Entrepreneurs are highly creative people.  They LOVE  a challenge.  You starting your business was a challenge.  Don’t start to be afraid if challenges.  We can all learn about ourselves when we face difficulties – ‘Who I really am.’

                       ‘What I can really do.’

‘How far I can really go.’

SO……..how about some STRATEGIES AND SUPPORT MECHANISMS to HELP YOU remember that; to HELP YOU keep that  MOTIVATION?

1.        GOALS

To quote renowned American philosopher and writer Elbert Hubbard:

“Many people fail in life, not for lack of ability or brains or even courage, but simply because they have not organised their lives around a goal”.

Create, monitor and update your own goal orientated ACTION PLAN.  You will need clearly thought out SMART goals:

·         SPECIFIC/SIGNIFICANT

·         MEASURABLE/MOTIVATIONAL

·         ACHIEVABLE/ACTION ORIENTED

·         RELEVANT/RESULTS ORIENTED

·         TIME BOUND (i.e.  by when?)

What difference will having clearly defined and monitored goals make to you and your business?  Well, think how valuable it would be, in the midst of all your ‘busyness’, to have this FOCUS to constantly centre you on where you are and where you want to head.  SMART goals can help you avoid that frequent temptation of going off on a tangent that is not actually going to progress your business and is distracting you from your ultimate vision for your business. Think of the MOTIVATION it will give you as you see how all your efforts  are actually achieving your aims and reminding you how far you’ve come.

2.        GET INSPIRED!

Find others who are inspirational and feed off their attitude, determination and enthusiasm.  Search out people locally via networks and organisations.  Read widely; there are so many inspirational writers to learn from.  Discover ‘what makes them tick’ and how they’ve overcome difficulties.  Never underestimate the power of being surrounded by positive people; find them and nurture them.  You may want to find a mentor or a ‘business buddy’ to encourage you to remain positive and focused.

3.       REMEMBER YOUR SUCCESSES

That new product that customers love;  that trade show that was hugely successful; the life balance that you left the rat race for.  And what about those targets you’ve achieved and that  difficult decision you made?  Remember those successes; remember what they felt like.  Think how much  more of that you want.  CELEBRATE those successes.  Don’t let them slip by unacknowledged.

4.       KEEP CONNECTED

It’s too easy to work alone, and feel alone.  DON’T.

·         Stay connected to your CUSTOMERS (see our blog,  Help Yourself to Success 2).

·         Stay connected to your TEAM.  Yes, you single traders do have a team; - your suppliers, your postman, the printer, your supportive friends, the family.

·         Stay connected to your BUSINESS NETWORK.  Up and down the country there are networks of small business owners, networks  like Buy-from Shropshire.  Find one, join one.

PERSEVERANCE  needs constant MOTIVATION.  Be that SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR.  Help yourself to SUCCESS.
