Keeping up with the ever-changing world of social media can be a real challenge. We’re here to make your life easier by keeping you up to date with the latest updates. Here’s a rundown of updates as July draws to a close:
Instagram Now Lets You Add Up to 20 Songs to Your Reels
Instagram now allows users to add up to 20 different audio tracks to their Reels. Previously, the limit was just one track. Users can create unique audio mixes, and others can save and use these mixes, with a full track listing available.
This update enables more creative remixes, mashups, and memes. Brands can leverage this for user-generated content, staying relevant with audio trends. It simplifies content creation without needing third-party tools, reducing the risk of algorithm penalties for non-native content.
X is Set to Introduce Downvotes
X is testing downvotes on public replies to posts. The number of downvotes won’t be public. A downvote icon appears with other interaction options, but only for replies, not original posts.
This feature aims to filter out spam and bot content, similar to Instagram’s comment ranking system. It will prioritise replies from accounts you follow, celebrities, or helpful content. Effectiveness remains to be seen.
Pinterest is Using AI to Enhance Product Shots
Pinterest is developing an AI tool called Canvas to generate various background options for product shots in ads. Canvas uses Pinterest’s image library and user prompts to create backgrounds, such as “Japandi” or “maximalist” interiors. Currently, it is being tested with select ad partners.
This helps make ads look more natural, aligning with user-generated content. When widely available, it’s worth testing to see if it improves ad performance and engagement.
TikTok Integrates Eventbrite
TikTok now allows creators to promote events with direct links to Eventbrite, making it easier for viewers to purchase tickets. This feature enhances event promotion and audience engagement.
Instagram is Moving the DM Button

Instagram will relocate the DM button to a more prominent position on the bottom bar, emphasising the importance of shares and send rates.
Meta Launches New ‘Imagine Me’ AI Feature
Meta announced its AI assistant can now speak more languages and create stylized selfies, thanks to the ‘Llama 3.1 405B’ model update. CEO Mark Zuckerberg predicts Meta AI will surpass other leading AI providers by the end of the year. This update enhances user interactions across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
