We are back with another edition of Social Media Unravelled, a monthly series of social media updates where we do the research so you don’t have to.

Check out the updates for September 2024:

Meta publishes a checklist for Christmas marketing planning

Meta has published a checklist to help you succeed during this peak season. Their advice is to begin advertisement early, use Meta AI and maximise connections with new audiences. There is obviously a large push on Meta tools but there is some great advice in there and for any businesses looking to leverage the power of social media this Christmas, this checklist is a helpful resource.

We have also produced a super helpful resource focused around your full Christmas Marketing Strategy, so be sure to also take a look at that – https://mailchi.mp/06ba67b4e17e/tss525ddaa.

Meta shares new Reels tips

Meta has announced that Reels are their fastest growing content type, with over 200 billion views per day across Facebook & Instagram. This guide details how to make reels that perform well. Within this playbook they also discuss which elements to use, what topics to create content on and how to use Reels in campaigns.

Meta announces more AI capabilities

Meta AI is expanding by introducing voice interaction and photo-sharing features to enable faster responses. Users can now talk to Meta AI on Messenger, Instagram DM, Facebook and WhatsApp. Meta AI can also now analyse photos shared in the chat and answer questions about the images. It can also edit images based on instructions and generate fun backgrounds for Instagram Stories.

TikTok adds ‘Delete & Re-Edit’ feature

We’ve all posted a TikTok and then realised a mistake once it had been uploaded and finally TikTok have created a feature to save us from that embarrassment. The new ‘Delete & Re-Edit’ feature means that a TikTok can be edited after it has been uploaded.

LinkedIn launches ‘Video’ feed

LinkedIn has launched a short-form video feed into their app. This comes after the rise in popularity of TikTok and Reels. This is a big change for the platform, and we may see a shift in the content which is being pushed out by the algorithm. This will be interesting to see how users react and whether video is the way forward on the platform.

LinkedIn removes ‘Top Voice’ badge for Collaborative Articles

As of October 8th, 2024, LinkedIn will be retiring it’s Gold Community Top Voice badges which were previously earned by contributing to collaborative articles. LinkedIn have explained that whilst there has been a 4x increase in weekly contribution quarter-over-quarter, by enabling people to be labelled as an expert by adding to an AI-generated post isn’t indicative of true expertise. From October 8th, these badges will expire 60 from when the badge was received.

LinkedIn renames ‘Unique Views’ to ‘Members Reached’

LinkedIn has renamed it’s Unique Views metric to Members Reached to give better clarity on what the metric measures. The metric is described as “the number of distinct members and pages that saw the post”. This will certainly be helpful when analysing social media metrics as Reach is an industry term across most social media platforms.
