Meet the Maker: Gisela Robinson Illustration

Can you start off by telling us about you and your work?

I’m a freelance illustrator and artist from Argentina -Buenos Aires- , now settled in Shrewsbury with my family. I studied design, media & communication and worked for many years in marketing for HSBC.  After having my children, I wanted to work from home,  and retrained by studying illustration and then specialising in editorial illustration.

What or who inspires your creativity the most?

Everything, really.  Little things of life,  nature, literature, memories, places ….  The magic bit is when somebody likes one of your artworks and it brings up their own experiences and memories. That’s the best part to me..

What medium do you primarily work in?

I paint with traditional media and also digitally.  I am not tied to any of them and choose the media to suit the project. My absolutely favourites are watercolour and gouache. I just love them !

What’s your favourite product you sell?

I love when somebody wants to purchase my artwork.  It is a validation of your work, your years of training and all those hours painting and drawing.  I specially enjoy selling my prints, as I imagine my art being part of other people homes.

What will people find to purchase when they visit you at Shropshire Artisan Showcase?

For SAS I will have my most popular prints, cards and postcards  together with  a series of new illustrations and products that have been preparing specially for this event, such a as pouches, magnetic book markers, totes, handbag mirrors and more.  I can’t wait to show them !
